Government green deal 'may boost construction employment'

The coalition government's 'green deal' plan is likely to boost the number of construction jobs in the coming months, one sector expert has stated.

Brian Berry, director of external affairs at the Federation of Master Builders, said that the industry is waiting to hear more details about the scheme, but it is likely to see the retrofit of 26 million homes.

His comments follow a report published by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, which suggested that some sectors of the construction industry experienced a drop in workloads in the second quarter of the year, although private commercial and residential were both broadly unchanged.

"This could potentially offer big job opportunities for builders who can retrofit existing properties. That is a possible ray of light at the end of the tunnel," he explained.

Mr Berry added that the sector needs to persuade the government that the construction industry is essential in terms of getting the British economy back on its feet because of the amount of people that it employs and its contribution to GDP.

The Aaron Wallis Construction and M&E finance team offer many construction finance jobs across the sector. For employers Aaron Wallis offer a construction finance recruitment service that offers 12 month rebate and psychometric profiling within a single fixed recruitment price.
