Sales jobs: UK needs to follow Europe's lead on green energy

The UK needs to play catch up when it comes to renewable energy, according to one expert whose views could give a boost to finance jobs.

John Barwise, chairman of the Cumbria Green Business Forum, said that investing in sustainable energy now will provide the UK with workers who can bring green fuel to future generations.

He said: "The UK now has to play catch-up... We desperately need to rebuild the UK's power industry and to invest now in training and skills, especially in new technologies."

The chairman added that at the moment a lot of renewable technology and skilled engineers come from overseas rather than being home grown.

Energy and Utility Skills council chief executive Tim Balcon recently said that the UK's energy industry needs to ensure its workforces are trained to respond to the changing demands of the progressing sector.
